Wright Well & Pump serves Cabarrus, Rowan, Mecklenburg, Iredell, Stanly and Union counties “and other surrounding areas,” from its home in Kannapolis. They split into two kinds of ground, and each page below explains what that means for a well.
Granite country
The Charlotte terrane: red clay over granite-type rock, around Kannapolis, Concord, Salisbury, Mooresville and Mecklenburg.
The Slate Belt
Ancient volcanic rock to the east and south: Stanly and Union counties and the eastern edges of Cabarrus and Rowan.
FractureWhy the ground matters
Same pump, different rock.
Granite-type rock around Kannapolis, Concord, Salisbury and Mecklenburg tends to give good, sound well bores and can carry radon. The Slate Belt rock of Stanly and Union counties can vary sharply in yield from one lot to the next, and it’s where North Carolina research has found arsenic most often. Almost everywhere, the water is a little acidic and may carry iron.
